More than two dozen pit bulls are seized from an East Bexar County property as part of a possible dogfighting operation.

Court documents show the dogs belong to a man who's already spent time behind bars for dogfighting.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office joined with the Humane Society of the United States for an April 29th raid on a farm suspected of hosting dog fights.

In all, investigators found twenty-six pit bulls. They say many of them had injuries consistent with dogfighting, but nothing was fresh. Their wounds had scarred over and healed. Court documents show the property belongs to 51-year-old Brian Bailey.

"I really didn't expect it again," said a neighbor who asked not to be identified. He remembers the last time Bailey's farm was raided.

Back in 2005, Bailey had eighty-eight pit bull dogs and puppies seized from his farm. He ended up pleading "no contest" to animal cruelty and spent nine months in state jail.

"At the time I was surprised because I didn't expect that to happen around here,” said the neighbor. "It's such a small community."

But recently that neighbor says he began to suspect the fighting wasn't over.

"We heard dogs barking again back there. Kind of sounded like it. We all kind of expected it. That it was going to happen again."

According to court documents, investigators recovered all sorts of evidence from Bailey's property that showed "a history and involvement with dogfighting". Specifically tools and equipment used exclusively by dogfighters for breeding and training."

Investigators also found illegal steroids, but Bailey insisted those were for him, not the dogs. He says he's simply breeding dogs "with a lot of heart."

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office says Brian Bailey has not been arrested or charged with any crime connected to this case at this time. But a judge has ruled that all 26 pit bulls will remain in protective custody as the investigation continues.
